Become a Friend of YMCA Europe! A contribution today that continues supporting YMCA in Europe for years to come.
The Friends of YMCA Europe campaign was launched at the General Assembly in May 2025 with a simple objective: to strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of YMCA Europe and help secure its capacity to serve the YMCA movement across Europe in the years ahead.
Since the campaign began, 40 individuals from 15 countries have made pledges totalling €28,082.
Every contribution is different, but together they send an important message: people who know YMCA and have experienced its work believe in its future and are willing to invest in it.
Our target is to raise €90,000 by the end of 2028. We have made solid progress, but there is still a significant distance to go.
Why your contribution has a long-term impact
Friends of YMCA Europe donations are not used immediately for day-to-day activities.
They are added to the George Williams Fund, YMCA Europe’s endowment fund, established to provide long-term support for YMCA’s work across Europe.
The principle is straightforward:
- your donation becomes part of the Fund’s permanent capital;
- the capital remains invested for the long term;
- the Fund generates an annual financial return;
- the revenues generated are used to support YMCA Europe’s work.
This means that your contribution does not support one activity once. It becomes part of a fund designed to generate support year after year.
The George Williams Fund was established in 2012 specifically to support YMCA Europe’s activities and strengthen the movement across Europe.
Its investments are managed according to an investment policy approved by the YMCA Europe Executive Committee, with attention to responsible Environmental, Social and Governance principles.
The development and performance of the Fund are reported annually to the YMCA Europe General Assembly.
Why this matters
YMCA Europe supports National Movements and local YMCAs across the continent through movement strengthening, youth programmes, peacebuilding, refugee and migrant inclusion, digital skills, advocacy, leadership development and opportunities for young people to connect across borders.
Much of this work depends on project-based or time-limited funding.
The George Williams Fund provides something different: a growing source of long-term, unrestricted financial support that can strengthen YMCA Europe’s capacity beyond individual projects and funding cycles.
The Friends of YMCA Europe campaign is therefore an investment in the organisation’s ability to continue serving the movement in the future.

Any contribution is welcome.
The campaign originally proposed a simple example:
€0.29 per day = €2 per week = €104 per year
A contribution at that level, repeated over three years, amounts to €312.
But there is no required amount. You can choose the contribution that is appropriate for you.

You can also donate online through the YMCA Europe donation page. Please select “Friends of YMCA Europe” when making your donation.
Tell us about your pledge
If you would like to become a Friend of YMCA Europe, please complete the Friends of YMCA Europe pledge form.
The form helps us understand your intended contribution and maintain contact with Friends of YMCA Europe. Your pledge can be for €104, €150, €1,000 or any other amount you choose. The existing campaign materials also allow supporters to contribute through regular bank transfers.
